Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura, separated from the African continent by a narrow channel, is the island with the longest beaches of fine sand, and also that with the oldest history. Because of the unusual sight of windmills that echo its farming past, it is also known as "the granary of the Canary Islands".
Owing to its varied landscape, the island is as much a paradise for fishing as it is for a beach holiday. Other places of interest include the Islote de Lobos Natural Park, where marine wolves of old had their mating rituals, and the Crafts Mill of Antigua, with its enclosure of gardens with species of cactus and palms. Popular tourist areas include Corralejo, Jandia and Puerto del Rosario, its primary town and port.
