Jumilla
Jumilla lies in the Murcia region where coastal terrains give way to the La Mancha plains. It is well known to local folks and outsiders for its production of wine. The town is deeply immersed in history and cultural heritage, thus many traces of its evolution and development are still visible today.
One of the most significant parts of the region is the Iberian village of Coimbra in the Barranco Ancho, as well as the Roman villas whose remains can be found at the town's Jeronimo Molina museum. The legacy of Arab influence is still apparent through the town's archaeology and names of places. The town was placed under the protection of the Manor of Villena when the Reconquest repossessed the region for Christianity. That was the time when the town started to take its present status. The buildings constructed during these centuries radiate the town's splendour. Some are the 15th century Castle on top of the hill, the patio de armas, the Church of El Salvador and the Ancient Council and Exchange.
The history of Jumilla contributes so much to the way it is now. Nature lovers have been attracted to the lovely surrounding countryside in the likes of Sierra de Carche, Sierra Larga and Sierra de Santa Ana. A number of visitors frequently come to admire the stunning local flora and fauna.
